On the Tallaght Smart Grid Test Bed energy users can become willing prosumers, actively involved in developing the flexibility and balancing capabilities that will be so valuable to the future energy system – more valuable than energy itself.
Enterprise is at the heart of the Energy Transition through research, development, testing and demonstration of the new systems that can equip our prosumers to build up the promised flexibility and balancing capabilities that will be so valuable to the future energy system – more valuable than energy itself.
Research Institutes, colleges, universities and schools all have a valuable role to play in the research, development, testing and demonstration of the flexibility and balancing capabilities that will be so valuable to the future energy system – more valuable than energy itself.
Local Government has a key role in the development of communities. To achieve the transition future prosumers will need to be empowered to work as concerted prosumer communities and groups. Local Government will play a key role in community formation and empowerment to enable them to gainfully provide the increasing flexibility and balancing capabilities that will be extremely valuable to the future energy system – more valuable than energy itself.
Local Area Smart Grid Test Beds provide the key to this great Energy Transition. By starting small and building steadily, organised prosumer groups can work with enterprise and local authorities, through Test Bed arrangements, to find the best local solutions to balancing power by power-matching, and providing flexibility by enabling devices that are amenable to “switching on and off” according the availability of power – but also to share and store energy for later use. The Energy Transition is all about bringing on this intelligent and automated system of balanced energy users, producers, sharers and storage – this is where the Flexibility and Balancing power will come from to achieve the Energy Transition that will be sustainable long into the future.
